Beschreibung:
Der kräftigere brasilianische Bruder von Notocactus minimus.
Am Standort bis 4 cm dick, bis über 10 cm hoch (selten bis 14 cm), Rippen bis 21, senkrecht verlaufend mit auf Höckerchen sitzenden, langen, weißfilzigen Areolen.
Bedornung gerader als bei, auch etwas länger, einzelne Mitteldornen bis 15 mm, Randdornen gelblicher.
Blüten bis 6 cm Ø; Narbenlappen purpurrot; Borsten an den Achseln der Schuppen von gelb bis hellbraun, stark variierend in der Blütenfarbe.
Samen schwarz, feinwarzig.
Typstandort: Livramento und bis 50 km nördlich der Stadt ohne Übergänge zu N. minimus: HU 34, FR 1361.
